World IPv6 Day will allow us to better understand how our infrastructure and code perform under IPv6 while minimizing impact on our users. Since January, we’ve conducted several studies and tests of our own and have gained even greater confidence that our site is ready for IPv6. We anticipate that 99.97% of users will not be affected at all. The small number of users who may be affected may find that pages are slow to load and we are working to minimize the impact.

Of course, we will be prepared to address any issues as they come up. Our Help Center has instructions and more information for users who may be affected.

We are encouraged by the overwhelming response of the hundreds of major organizations who have signed up to participate on World IPv6 Day.

Check back here June 9 to see how the test went.

The goal of the Test Flight Day is to motivate organizations across the industry – Internet service providers, hardware makers, operating system vendors and web companies – to prepare their services for IPv6 to ensure a successful transition as IPv4 addresses run out.

He has developed the program specifically to help networkers who may not have the time to pour over books get up and running with IPv6.

Registration before May 15th is $197, and yields immediate access to the first two video lessons, with the other four becoming accessible on the 15th:

IPv6 features and benefits
IPv6 addressing
IPv6 headers
ICMPv6 – Why is this important?
Stateless and stateful autoconfiguration
A basic configuration of IPv6 on routers and desktop computers

The videos also come with downloadable MP3s and PDF transcripts. Brandon is an excellent trainer, and with World IPv6 Day less than a month away this is precisely the type of training some networkers need to finally make the push toward IPv6.

This means that APNIC is now supplying IPv4 address space to its members from the last /8 it holds according to the guidelines in section 9.10 in “Policies for IPv4 address space management in the Asia Pacific region”.

APNIC’s objective during Stage Three is to provide IPv4 address space for new entrants to the market and for those deploying IPv6.

From now, all new and existing APNIC account holders will be entitled to receive a maximum allocation of a /22 from the Final /8 address space.

As such, the Number Resource Organization (NRO), along with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the Internet Society (ISOC), and the Internet Architecture Board (IAB) will be holding a press conference to make a significant announcement and to discuss the global transition to the next generation of Internet addresses.

Dear colleagues,

On 1 February 2011, the IANA allocated two /8s of IPv4 address space to APNIC, the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for the Asia Pacific region.
This means that only five /8s of IPv4 address space are left in the IANA free pool and the “Global Policy for the Allocation of the Remaining IPv4 Address Space” will be triggered.
This policy can be found online at:http://www.icann.org/en/general/allocation-remaining-ipv4-space.htm
When this policy comes into effect, the five RIRs will each receive one of the five remaining /8s and the global IPv4 pool will be exhausted.
We expect IANA to allocate these final /8s within the next few days.
For further information please see:http://www.ripe.net/v4exhaustion/
Regards,
Axel Pawlik
Managing DirectorRIPE NCC

When building an IPv6-enabled Service Provider core, you have three design options: dual-stack deployment, running IPv6 over MPLS (6PE) or running IPv6 inside a VPN (6VPE). This workshop describes the principles of all three design options and their comparative benefits and drawbacks.

We’ll also discuss Cisco IOS configurations for each of the three design options; you’ll get complete router configurations for a sample PE-router, P-router and BGP route reflector.

Delivery details
The presentation is delivered over the Internet using one of the popular interactive web conferencing platforms, allowing you to ask questions and receive answers in real-time. You’ll receive the necessary technical details two days before the delivery date.

NETNOD has joined the host team for the first time in 2009 and is taking the lead in the organisation for this year.

The unique event will bring together around 200 individuals from our respective member organisations, the peering networks that have an interest in not only negotiation and strategy, but also the operational aspects of peering.

The IPv6 content for this year is a little low but a good panel discusion will be available on day 2 which i am looking forward to seeing.

IPv6 panel discussion. Moderator: Martin Levy, HE. Panelists: Marco Hogewoning (XS4ALL), Gert Doering (SpaceNet), Dave Freeman (Claranet) and Rickhard Carlswärd (Phonera).
