Last Call : 2010 Global IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey
This is a last-call reminder to participate in the 2010 Global IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey, conducted by GNKS Consult and TNO in collaboration with the RIPE NCC.
The survey is available at:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/IPv6deploymentmonitoring2010
The deadline to complete the survey is this Thursday, 1 July 2010.
All five Regional Internet Registries have committed to soliciting participation in this survey in order to compile the most complete global IPv6 deployment data possible. The goal of the survey is to gain a better understanding of where the community is moving, and what can be done to ensure the Internet community is ready for the widespread adoption of IPv6.
We encourage all organisations in the RIPE NCC service region to participate in this survey, which we hope will establish a comprehensive view of present IPv6 penetration and future plans for IPv6 deployment.
The survey is composed of 23 questions and can be completed in about 15 minutes. For those without IPv6 allocations or assignments, or who have not yet deployed IPv6, the questions will be fewer in number.
Results of the IPv6 Deployment Monitoring Survey will be presented and discussed at RIPE 61, which will be held 15-19 November in Rome, Italy.
Results will also be published on IPv6 Act Now:
http://ipv6actnow.org
Please provide your name and contact information on the survey form if you wish to receive the draft survey analysis when available. Please also indicate whether you are willing to share additional data with the TNO and GNKS Consult IPv6 Deployment Monitoring team.
Any questions concerning the survey itself should be addressed to <info@gnksconsult.com>.
Regards,
Paul Rendek

What industry commentators would like to see in the Digital Britain report.
What industry commentators would like to see in the Digital Britain report.
Axel Pawlik, managing director, RIPE NCC, the European internet address registrar:
"The more widespread the internet becomes, the more computers will be connected to the UK-wide network. For the 'broadband for all by 2012' vision of the UK government to become a reality, we need a dramatic increase in the number of IP addresses, the numeric IDs assigned to all devices connected to the internet.
"The IP addresses currently most widely in use, IP version 4, are set to run out by 2011. So, to connect all computers to high-speed internet, the new generation of IP addresses, known as IPv6 must be rolled out.

"The RIPE NCC urges the UK government to take an active approach to driving adoption of IPv6 among telcos, ISPs and businesses of all sizes. It can lead by making its own services available over IPv6, and using the power its wields as a procurer of technology to encourage UK-wide deployment."
RIPE NCC does a series of interviews about IPv6 deployment
As part of RIPE NCC's IPv6 training project, that consists of face to face training and on-line learning modules and testimonials, RIPE have announced the first in a series of interviews.
Andy Davidson of NetSumo ISP Consultancy discusses the IPv6 deployment they have done for their customers and themselves:

So far, we have interviewed 22 people from the community about their experiences and are very busy editing all the video material. In the coming
months, you will be able to enjoy the rest of the interviews here:
RIPE NCC Announces Launch of IPv6 Act Now! Website
The RIPE NCC today announced the launch of the IPv6 Act Now! website. RIPE NCC, a Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia, calls the website a one-stop destination on IPv6 where everyone can understand and provide a variety of useful information aimed at promoting the global adoption of IPv6. "The site is for anyone with an interest in IPv6, including network engineers, company directors, law enforcement agencies, government representatives and civil society."

Stopwatch Rollout – 2hrs from Application to live
Andy Davidson documents his 2 hour IPv6 deployment
"On Wednesday at 2:30PM uk time, I applied for a /32. One hour later, we were allocated 2a02:c30::/32. I straight away assigned a /48 for our network infrastruture, and another for our production hosting lan, another for our development hosting lan. From these /48s, several /64s were reserved, one for router loopbacks, another for point to point links, more for individual hosting applications. An hour later, this was implemented on our network - routers had loopbacks, and a v6 IGP was up and running, and working. I filed a ticket with our upstreams, and the first announcement was turned up minutes later - check BGPlay for exact times. Around 2 hours after making our application to RIPE, we were participants on the IPv6 internet."
